Summary
- Boom Mines are traps that will be triggered when troops are within close proximity.
- They activate briefly after contact, inflicting massive damage in a very small area.
- The first Boom Mine is unlocked upon reaching Headquarters level 10.
- Boom Mines reappear after every attack on your base. You never have to rebuild them.
- Boom Mines are upgraded using the Armory.
- Statues will not increase the Boom Mine's damage dealt.
Offensive Strategy
- Do not let your Troops (especially your most valuable ones) step on a Boom Mine, as they are very deadly! However, if your Troops have at least 1 tile spacing, the Boom Mine can only hit one of them.
- As with Cannons and Boom Cannons, Boom Mines are designed to counter large units and have an extremely small AOE, so they are only concerning if you attack with said units, such as Tanks. Its poor blast radius greatly weakens its effectiveness against groups of smaller units like Riflemen, as it will only destroy one or two of them, a loss usually inconsequential with such army compositions.
- Artillery, Barrages, or Critters can be used to set off Boom Mines.
- Dr. Kavan's Ice Shields and the temporary Crystal Shield Projector ability can be used to absorb its explosion.
- Grenadiers, Lazortrons and Rain Makers can also trigger Boom Mines indirectly via their attacks. The Cluster Grenade, Explosive Charges, and Shock Knuckles abilities can also detonate any Boom Mines as a result of their impacts.
Defensive Strategy
- Place Boom Mines away from normal Mines and other Boom Mines, as they are capable of dealing with a group of troops alone.
- Having some distance between Boom Mines can also prevent attackers from triggering all of them through a Barrage.
- Hiding your Mines/Boom Mines behind tall buildings such as Sniper Towers can make them a surprise to your attacker and help you win your defense.
- You can hide your Boom Mines behind Magma statues or any Masterpieces as their heads can hide Boom Mines. It is advised to put them behind Magma Masterpieces.
- They are better against single yet powerful troops such as a Scorcher but are very ineffective against a swarm of Riflemen.
Upgrade Differences
- There are no visual changes between levels, but each upgrade increases damage (by 13-8.7%).
Trivia
- When the Headquarters is destroyed, all the buildings except Mines, Boom Mines, and Shock Mines explode.
