Summary

  • The Cryoneer is the 10th troop unlocked in the game at Headquarters level 20.
  • The Cryoneer has moderate speed, range and miniscule DPS, with overshooting attacks that pierce her initial target and damage buildings behind.
    • Cryoneer's attacks can freeze any damaged buildings, reducing their fire rate by 50% for 5 seconds. Only instance of freeze can be active on any building at any given moment, and the most recently applied one takes priority.

Offensive Strategy

  • Cryoneers will disperse themselves to cover as many targets as possible, and they will periodically switch targets in battle.
  • Since they slow down the firing rate of enemy turrets, effectively reducing their damage output by a percentage instead of a raw number, they are extremely useful for supporting other troop formations like Heavy-Zooka even on bases with very high damage boosts like Gearheart or upper-level Operation bases, unlike Medics whose raw-point-value healing effect gets quickly overpowered in these situations. The Heavy-Zooka-Cryo formation can be incredibly effective, as Heavies buy the much-needed time for Cryoneers to disable critical defenses.
  • Cryoneers can also be used in the RZCM strategy, or the Rifleman-Zooka-Cryoneer-Medic strategy. This strategy uses Riflemen as meatshields, Zookas to deal damage, Cryoneers to cripple defenses, and Medics to heal. The Cryoneers will slow down Machine Guns and Flamethrowers, allowing the Riflemen to stay alive longer.
  • It is not recommended to use Cryoneers with Scorchers, as Scorchers will neutralize their freezing effects.

Defensive Strategy

  • Cryoneers have moderate health so a Cannon or Boom Cannon can take her down in one shot, and the same goes for Rocket Launchers or Mortars. However, this is easier said than done, as Cryoneers are frequently used alongside Heavies and Riflemen.
  • Avoid clustering defenses whenever possible because this provides Cryoneers the opportunity to freeze more defenses at once.

Upgrade Differences

  • There are no visual changes between levels, but each upgrade increases the Cryoneer's hitpoints (by 9%), DPS (by 5%), beam extension (by about half a tile) and training cost (by 1000 gold).

Trivia

  • According to a Loading Screen Hint, the Cryoneer's freeze ray was developed using technology from Dr. T's Cryo Bomb.
  • You can have a maximum of 56 Cryoneers in a complete set of fully upgraded Landing Crafts. Having this many, however, will outright eliminate most if not all of your offensive capabilities.
  • Cryoneer has the second-highest fire rate of all regular troops during bursts, with a 0.075s delay between shots.
  • The sound of ice shattering can be heard when a frozen building is destroyed.
  • The name 'Cryoneer' may be a portmanteau of 'Cryo' (the Greek prefix for "cold") and 'Engineer'.
  • The Cryoneer, along with Sgt. Brick are voice acted by Marissa Lenti.
  • The Cryoneer has dozens of catchphrases which can be viewed by tapping her info button in the Armory or Landing Craft. She is also the only troop to have multiple catchphrases. Almost every single one of these is either a reference, a pun, or both. They include, but are not limited to the following:
