Explosive Drones
"Fires a cluster of drones that take a short duration to activate, and then make a beeline for the nearest enemy building and explode, dealing damage."

Summary

  • The Explosive Drones are small Critter-like robots that self-destruct and deal damage when they reach their target, requiring a short delay beforehand. Similar to Critters, they will not respond to Flares. Unlike most explosives in the game, these will not harm your troops. It is important to note that they only activate Mines, Boom Mines, and Shock Mines after their arming time is finished. In addition, they can be targeted during their delay by anything in range. Explosive Drones only deal damage if they detonate on their own by reaching their target.
  • Explosive Drones are not affected by Medics, Medkits, Protectors, Dr. Kavan, Flares.
  • The ability's cost starts at 5 energy, which increases by 5 for every subsequent use.
  • The Explosive Drones is occasionally available to the Gunboat for a limited period of time.

Offensive Strategy

  • Explosives Drones can serve as a distraction to the defensive buildings for a very short duration, taking their fire to save your troops.
    • Note, however, that they can only draw focus for 2 seconds before they run to the buildings and destroy themselves.
  • Flamethrowers and other fast-firing defenses will destroy the Explosives Drones fairly easily and quickly, so they are best used to destroy single-target defenses like Boom Cannons or those that deal comparatively low damage like the Lazor Beam, as they won't be able to destroy the Explosives Drones before the Detonation.
  • Explosives Drones can also be used, like the Critters, to clear Mines and/or Boom Mines as an alternative to using Barrage or Artillery.
    • They can also be used as a substitute against a building that has low health and if the energy cost of the next Critter shot is cheaper than either Artillery or Barrage.
  • Explosives Drones can trigger Hot Pots and Boom Surprises, leaving them vulnerable to stun from a Shock Bomb and fire from Artillery & Barrages.

Defensive Strategy

Upgrade Differences

  • There are no visual differences between levels.
  • Unlike the Critter each Level increase Lifepoints and Damage instead of amount as is the case with critters.

Trivia

  • Explosives Drones do not count towards casualties if they die, and will stand their ground to continue distracting enemy defenses when retreating.
