Update (March 27, 2018)

THE MEGA CRAB RETURNS… EVERY MONTH!

With this update comes a monthly Mega Crab into the monthly event schedule for Boom Beach.

What is the Mega Crab? The Mega Crab is one of Dr. T’s most dastardly superweapons, a crustacean hellbent on deconstruction! It is the ultimate test of a Commander’s skill, and a great chance to earn a boatload of extra resources! Formed of seemingly endless stages, players will battle for the top spot on the leaderboard against increasingly difficult defense layouts!

Each monthly Mega Crab will be a unique event, each with unique stage bonuses. Information about each Mega Crab will be available before it starts!

Players can earn one of four UNIQUE trophy Decorations per Mega Crab. Awarded by the hardest trophy to gain will be the Diamond trophy (followed by Gold, Iron, and Stone). Owners of this trophy will truly show their experience as the ultimate Boom Beach Commander!

As each Mega Crab will have unique trophies, once the Mega Crab is gone, the chance of earning those unique trophies are as well!

NEW PROTO DEFENSES & CHANGES TO THE WEAPON LAB!

Something’s stirring in the Weapon Lab… five new Proto Defenses have been added!

They won’t all be immediately available however - the Weapon Lab has been updated to have a rotation of six different Prototype Defenses available to players every week!

Below are the details of the first two that will be available:

S.I.M.O.

A Heavy with a vengeance… Betrayed by a medic on the battlefield and left with one eye, S.I.M.O. seeks out those weakest on the Battlefield.

Targets low health enemies within range. Can see through smoke with the help of Infrared sensors.

Sky Shield

The latest in Prototype technology, this handy building sets up an impenetrable shield against Gunboat Abilities! Until it gets blown up...

Sets up a defensive shield around itself, protecting all buildings under the shield from Gunboat projectiles. The shield dissipates if the generator is destroyed.

NEW TRIBE BONUSES!

There are now a grand total of thirteen Tribe Bonuses that will be added to the Tribes, for even more mayhem. The below boosts can (and will!) be applied to specific Troop types so expect to see some potentially explosive pairings in the future. Warriors with flame damage? Yes please!

Winter Celebration - Happy Beachmas!

The cold winds of winter have reached your shores. Player bases are now coated in snow, with seasonal music that does not spare on the bells!

A free Beachmas Tree decoration will also be made available for all Commanders who log in during the holiday period, and with this update you will also gain access to a temporary Gun Boat Ability - the Cryo Bomb!

New Prototroops

When you have reached HQ 15, you will gain access to three mysterious new tank blueprints from the Trader, codenamed ‘Prototroops’.

The Trader will occasionally be selling new temporary tanks in the form of Prototroop Blueprints. You can buy 1 day worth of Prototroop blueprint access at a time, and a total of 5 days total access overall.

Keep an eye out for Prototroop offers - Prototroop Blueprints will not be available at every Trader visit!

There will be three different Prototroops available from the Trader, and each tank will have unique, experimental weaponry!

The Trader has provided us with some information about each tank below:

Lazortron

Lazor Cutter: Fires a powerful lazor beam that can pass through several buildings at once.

Rain Maker

Make it rain!: Fires an explosive mortar shell from a long distance.

Slow but steady: Very slow fire rate - don’t rely on these tanks to net you a speedy victory!

Critter Cannon

Critter Cannon: Launches clusters of Critters with each shot!

Minesweeper: These Critters can also clear mines.

The below intel applies to all versions of Prototroops:

Limited Edition!

Prototroops will be available for a set time limit after you have bought them, and will no longer be usable after this time expires. You can view how much time remains for Prototroop availability from the Gun Boat selection loadout.

Prototroops - just like other tanks… sort of!

Other than the time limit, Prototroops work like every other troop. They can be loaded onto Landing Crafts, and can be retrained if lost in an attack. Endless Reserves also works with Prototroops! Like other tanks, Prototroops cost Gun Boat Energy to launch.

Auto-upgrade Technology comes pre-installed as standard!

As Boom's player base grows, we're starting to notice a potential problem with having an event that activates for everyone at the same time - meaning a lot of players simultaneously pressing "Attack Dr. Terror Stage 1". So to keep Boom's servers running smoothly, we need to stagger the time that Dr. Terror visits your maps.

Therefore, Dr. Terror's visiting hours have changed to...

- 2h sooner: Japan, Korea, Australia, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia

- 1h sooner: China

- No change: United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico

- 1h later: United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, Italy

- 2h later: Everywhere else

Version 19.56.1 (December 9, 2014)

- You now get one extra guaranteed Power Stone Crystal after beating Terror Stage 19

- Changed VP reward to give Shards instead of Crystals (tap here to find out more)

- Leaving a Task Force at any point during an operation will make you ineligible for the OP reward

Things that look cooler:

- Gears and fans have been turned on in operation levels

- New invasion and destruction animations on the map

- New attack in progress animations on the operations map

Maintenance Break (November 20, 2014)

Bug Fixes and Balance Changes:

- Server fixes/upkeep.

- Top 50 players will be matched a tiny bit more frequently (Will this be noticeable? Hard to say, but theoretically the #1 player's VP climb could slow down and begin to plateau).

Maintenance Break (October 28, 2014)

Invasion cap:

We've now analysed the server stats and data since the update and there is a clear drop in invasions. It's been improving and normalising over the past few days, but not as fast as we would like. Therefore, we're increasing the invasion cap as follows:

(Radar Level -> Invasion Cap)

1 -> 2

2 -> 5

3 -> 7

4 -> 9

5 -> 11

6 -> 13

7 -> 15

8 -> 17

9 -> 19

10 -> 21

11 -> 23

12 -> 24

13 -> 26

14 -> 27

15 -> 28

16 -> 30

17 -> 31

18 -> 32

19 -> 33

20 -> 34

This also means that if you were getting invasions, they'll come even faster, and if you weren't, you don't have as far to go to start getting them. As well as this, we're planning to improve the invasion system even more in the next update (not this maintenance), so that if you don't get a new invasion, your chances of getting one next time increases progressively. This should minimise the times where you can have a run of bad luck and don't get new invasions even while your map is clear.

As well as this, for the next update, we want to add more clarity to how the invasion system works.

Force Point decay:

- Daily Force Point decay increase from 1% -> 5%

If you want to create a new Task Force, with the 1% decay, it could take you a very long time to challenge the leaderboards, which we think will deter people from making new Task Forces. With a 5% decay, you can create a new Task Force and challenge the leaderboards much sooner! This should make the leaderboards more competitive, and stop it from being simply a case of when you created your Task Force, but more about how well you're able to play.

Intel costs:

- Higher intel costs, lower Force Point gains for early operations

- Lower intel costs, higher Force Point gains for later operations

- Difficulty tweaks inside an operation

The current system encourages Task Forces to take on an operation as soon as they have enough intel, instead of saving up for a more appropriately challenging one. This is because the intel to Force Points ratio isn't quite right. The first step for correcting this is to re-balance the intel costs and Force Point gains for the operations. The second step, which will come in the next update, is going to give Task Forces more interesting decisions to make about how to spend their intel.

Something else we're changing slightly is the difficulty range of individual Power Bases inside an operation. The strongest Power Base in an operation will be further (difficulty-wise) from the weakest, to better suit Task Forces with a more diverse range of XP levels.

- Ash particles fall from the sky on volcanic islands

- Falling snow on ice islands

Dr. Terror Got Buff Stuff:

- Dr. Terror has built Shock Launchers

- Dr. Terror now harnesses the power of Ice Statues

Why are we doing this?

We think Dr. Terror is too easy for a lot of high level players, who can breeze through his 20 stages in 15 minutes or less, twice a week. This gives a huge resource injection without much challenge. Dr. Terror is a worthy adversary and clearing his 20 stages should be hard.

Balance Stuff:

- Treasure chests don't spawn as often

- Dive Locations spawn more often

- Faster invasion rate when your map is cleared (meaning you have no NPC or player bases to attack)

- Slower invasion rate the fuller your map gets

- Lower invasion cap (34 PvP/NPC bases for a fully explored Radar level 20) More info here.

- Shorter build times for high level building upgrades

- More expensive Diamond speedups (this is to balance the above point)

- Less expensive resource purchases with Diamonds
